Mandate

The South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) is an independent, self-funded, statutory body mandated in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 1974 (Act 53 of 1974) to regulate the pharmacy profession in the country with powers to register pharmacy professionals and pharmacies, control of pharmaceutical education, and ensuring good pharmacy practice.

The SAPC has disciplinary powers which include, inter alia, the authority to monitor compliance with professional standards, investigate alleged misconduct and impose disciplinary sanctions against those found guilty of misconduct – which may include deregistration.
